Specialist Procurement - Abbott (Puerto Rico)

**Position Summary**
+ Coordinates activities involved with procuring goods and services (e.g. raw materials, production supplies) and ensures that items and services purchased are of high quality, on time and at the lowest total price.Activities include interaction with suppliers by phone or service providers in person to negotiate the procuring materials and services.Requests bids from new suppliers to ensure the best price for materials.Develops new supply sources where vendors and suppliers are inadequate.Assist internal and external customers by answering questions and assisting in solving their problems so they can perform within established guidelines (e.g. Good Mfg. Practices, Food and Drug Administration).
**Main Responsibilities**
+ Interacts with suppliers by phone or service providers in person to negotiate activities involved with procuring materials and service. Requests bids from new suppliers by personal contact and/or phone to ensure the best price for materials.
+ Processes purchase requests by accessing database and assigning a number to the order to provide an information source for tracking the order.
+ Provides guidance to internal and external customers regarding problem solving resolution so they can perform within established guidelines (i.e., Good Manufacturing Practices, Food and Drug Administration).
+ Lead and implements cost saving ideas and projects to obtain maximum efficiencies of company funds.
+ Support supplier audits by visiting their facility, when required, observing task performance and reviewing procedures to evaluate their capabilities.
+ Understand and react to various forecasts, patterns and reports to ensure inventory demands are met. Also, assurance that services provided to employees meet business needs.
+ Investigates nonconforming materials by interfacing with production engineers, receiving personnel and/or suppliers to identify the cause. Track progress until resolution.
+ Other duties as assigned.
**Education Requirement**
+ Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Engineering or Science.
**Experience Requirement**
+ Minimum 2 years of related experience.
**Other Requirements**
+ Incumbent must possess the appropriate levels of skills necessary to effectively interface with all levels of Abbott employees and suppliers. Heavy involvement with product cost analysis and technical evaluations along with effective interpretation of market trends, forces and conditions that influence time-phased purchases and contracts. Individual must have excellent communication, human relations and problems solving skills.
+ Knowledge of Quality regulations and standards affecting chemical, and medical devices (i.e. Quality Systems, FDA regulations, and EN46000), knowledge of corporate, local, state, and OSHA regulation.
